The Côte-d'Or is best known for its vineyards as far as the eye can see. The famous Route des Grands Crus takes you through the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, veritable theaters of vine-covered hills. In autumn, the leaves take on flamboyant colors, painting the Countryside in shades of red, orange and gold. Its landscapes are home to numerous historic sites that bear witness to the region's rich history: the Château du Clos de Vougeot in the heart of the vineyards, the Hospices de Beaune a historic building surrounded by ancient vines, Alesia and Mont Auxois where Julius Caesar defeated Vercingetorix, Dijon, the region's capital, its Palais des Ducs and the Tour Philippe le Bon.
