Figeac
Figeac grew up on the banks of the River Célé, from a prosperous medieval town to a dynamic sub-prefecture with cutting-edge aeronautical industries. The origins of the City date back to 830 AD, when Pepin I of Aquitaine founded the Abbey of Saint-Sauveur. Figeac grew and flourished from the 12th century onwards, with strong trading activity favored by the city's crossroads location.

In a covered, air-conditioned space, Reptiland presents Europe's finest collection of reptiles on display in daylight, with over 100 species and more than 200 specimens (snakes, crocodiles, lizards, monitor lizards, iguanas, turtles, as well as mygales, scorpions, etc.), and also France's largest collection of venomous species. Built between the 12th and 17th centuries on a hill overlooking several valleys, the Castelnau-Bretenoux fortified castle in Prudhomat is an imposing medieval red stone fortress with a keep and ramparts. For many years, it was the seat of the powerful Barons de Castelnau family.

A real prehistoric cavePech Merle cave
The prehistoric galleries of the lower network were discovered in 1922 by André David and Henri Dutertre, aged sixteen and fifteen from the village of Cabrerets. The paintings and engravings were immediately studied by Abbé Amédée Lemozi, the prehistoric priest of Cabrerets. The upper network of the Pech Merle cave, with no trace of prehistoric occupation, was explored in the early 20th century.

A pact with the devilValentré Bridge
Built at the time of the Franco-English wars, the Pont Valentré is a rare example of French military architecture of the period, and one of the finest surviving fortified medieval bridges in Cahors. Rising majestically 24 metres above the River Lot, the famous Pont Valentré stands imposing, magnificent and full of stories and anecdotes. This medieval monument is never empty during the summer months.
