Cluny Abbey

Cluny - one of the greatest religious heritage centres in France.
Cluny Abbey was founded in 910 and played a major political role in history through its famous abbots like Richelieu and Mazarin. The abbey followed the Rule of Saint Benedict and served as a model for numerous monasteries throughout Europe, with its Romanesque church with arches up to 30 metres high. The majority of the buildings were destroyed after the Revolution but the Museum of Art and Archaeology houses the remains as well as a digital 3-dimensional reconstitution.
