Grand Massif is in the middle of the Alps and Haute-Savoie, halfway between Chamonix and Geneva. It covers 40,000 hectares of countryside of character and contrasts, a perfect place for both winter and summer sports enthusiasts.

Created over 30 years ago, Grand Massif is an exceptional destination both for its environment and the quality of its ski area. This immense area was born out of a liaison between Tête des Saix and four resorts : Flaine, Les Carroz, Morillon and Samoëns.

The variety of resorts at Grand Massif is only equalled by the number of activities it offers ! All year round, multi-activity is the key word. Whether you are looking for relaxing or sporting holiday, or perhaps a bit of both, you are sure to find an activity to suit you.

In winter, thanks to its wonderful geographical location and high altitude, the ski area has excellent snow cover throughout the season. In addition, 80% of the Grand Massif pistes are north-facing, so snow cover is not only plentiful but also of excellent quality. There are 148 pistes over 265km : 20 green pistes for beginners, 64 blue and 50 red pistes for intermediate level and 14 black pistes for highly experienced skiers and snowboarders, so all levels and board sports are catered for. Grand Massif is in an unspoilt environment facing Mont-Blanc with views to take your breath away.

Grand Massif also has the particularity of being a ski area of great diversity with vast open spaces for nature lovers and plentiful snow.

The resort of Flaine was opened at the end of the 1960s in a superb natural cirque. The design of the resort is described as an ode to nature, a work of architecture which fits in perfectly with the breathtaking landscape. The unique example of an integrated ski resort in France (which gives the resort its mythical charm), Flaine is a natural, semi-pedestrianized area culminating at 2,500m. When the snow melts, it becomes an immense, fascinating ocean of rocks and greenery with superb views of Mont Blanc.

Its minimalist architecture is completely integrated into the surroundings. Here, contemporary architects and artists designed buildings to energise the beauty of the landscape and adorn it with majestic sculptures. Because of its architecture, Flaine is the only ski resort today to be a listed historic monument.

As far as winter sports go, Flaine is a real paradise with exceptional snow cover and direct access to the slopes. The resort offers numerous mountain activities : downhill and Nordic skiing, snowmobile, driving on ice, ice quad, buggy, big air bag, snowshoe trekking…

There is no shortage of cultural life either with a rich programme of ‘après-ski’ facilities and events.

Everything here is designed for a carefree holiday. Shops and amenities are all within walking distance and border this unique natural cirque, designed as an open air museum. Flaine was the first ski resort in the French Alps to bring together respect for the environment, architecture and town planning in a magnificent mountain setting.
