A Belle-Epoque water city
Domaine Bagnoles de l'Orne
At the very end of the 19th century, visitors toBagnoles de L'Orne might have said that it was a new City, as Thermal baths, casinos, villas and hotels sprang up from the woods, attracting the Gotha of Europe's royal courts. In this "Belle Epoque ", which came to an abrupt end with the outbreak of war in 14/18, sea baths and spas were the fashion of the wealthy. Bagnoles de l'Orne was built on the remains of Roman Thermal baths and a therapeutic hot spring. It is still the only spa in western France.

A plateau countryThe Pays d'Ouche
Straddling the Orne and Eure departments, in the heart of Normandy, lies the Pays d'Ouche, so dear to the author Jean de la Varende 's heart. This land is reputed to be quite rugged, but above all it's very discreet. The Pays d'Ouche has to be earned. You have to tame it and take the time to appreciate it. It's a plateau country, with very little relief, partly covered by forests and irrigated by a rich hydrographic network.
