Superb medieval fortress
City of Carcassonne
The majestic citadel overlooking the City of Carcassonne, one of Europe's largest medieval cities, is well worth a visit, with its cobbled streets, its lices at the foot of the ramparts, and its beautiful 13th and 14th century stained glass windows in the Basilica of Saint Nazaire. In the 19th century, thanks to the joint efforts of the Carcassonnais and the Monuments Historiques, which entrusted its restoration to Eugène Viollet-le-Duc, the ancient fortress was restored to its former glory.

A magnificent heritage
Cathar country
Situated between the Mountain Noire to the north and the Pyrenees to the south, and bordered by the Mediterranean to the east, Pays Cathare refers to a religion that disappeared in the 14th century, but whose history continues to shape the identity of the Aude department. Although its Mediterranean climate is ideal for relaxation, it would be a shame to miss out on all the cultural riches the Cathar country has to offer.
