The mediaeval town of Avignon and its walls are a UNESCO World Heritage site. Popes once lived in its Gothic palace dating back to the 14th and 15th centuries. The town is world-famous for its theatre festival created in 1948 by Jean Vilar. You can rent a house in the heart of the town, a chambre d'hôtes in the Raspail-Vernetou neighbourhood or a furnished apartment in the La Balance neighbourhood and enjoy the festival of Avignon to the full.

You will be close to its main venues such as the Opéra, the Collection Lambert, the Saint-Louis cloister, the Saint-Joseph high school and of course the central courtyard of the Palais des Papes. The Jean Vilar house is the memory of the festival.

In Avignon, the streets, the cafés and the courtyard are already real improvised theatres where you will be able to enjoy the off festival. Pay a visit to the Tourist Office and the village of the off to find out about the festival programme.

Avignon is an open door to Provence. Rent a house on the Ile de la Barthelasse, book a villa with swimming pool in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon and enjoy a holiday in the sun.
