Fronton, the Toulouse wine-growing area.
The origins of this wine-growing area can be traced back to Gallo-Roman times, over 2,000 years ago. It developed during the Middle Ages when the Knights of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem settled in the area. Legend has it that on returning from the Crusades, they brought back a variety of grape from Cyprus called « mavro » (meaning ‘black’ in Greek)and changed the name to « Négrette », the unique vine which is nowadays the pride of the wine-growers of Haut-Garonne and has the highest content in all Fronton wines. The AOC (PDO) Fronton area covers 20 villages between the rivers Tarn and Garonne, offering an unrivalled variety of scenery and wines.
30km from Toulouse and 20km from Montauban, Vignoble de Fronton wine-growing area is an ideal destination for wine tourism. Follow the Route des Vins wine trail from château to château and meet wine-growers delighted to share their passion for their profession and present their wines.

It brings together everything which makes the destination attractive : vineyards, cultural, natural and intangible heritage, gastronomy, savoir-faire, leisure activities, wellness, events, accommodation and food outlets.
