The tranquil town of Pont-Audemer has something for everyone and is well-placed for travelling around and visiting the major attractions of Normandy : seaside resorts, Honfleur, Deauville, Trouville, the Normandy Beaches, Pays d’Auge, Le Havre, Etretat, etc.
Tucked away between two arms of the River Risle, the quaint little town is a joy to visit with its slate roofs, half-timbered houses, bridges, rivers, a succession of old tannery drying rooms (the founder of Hermès learned his trade here), typical Norman buildings and magnificent mansions dating back to the town’s heyday. The Venice of Normandy also has medieval streets, a castle, fortifications and many canals crossed by stone bridges which explain its pretty nickname.
Pont-Audemer – culture, gastronomy and countryside.

However, Pont-Audemer is not stuck in the past and visitors are surprised at the number of contemporary buildings, all meeting sustainable development requirements, which blend in perfectly with the historic ones : Theatre de l’Eclat, Musée Canel, médiathèque (library), Cartonnerie (business development premises)…
Pont-Audemer is a paradise for visitors with a sweet tooth ! Specialities include Mirlitons, created in honour of the famous pâtissier Gaston Lenôtre, Pavé chocolates and ‘tarte aux pommes’ (Normandy apple tart) !
Don’t hesitate to visit Manneville sur Risle or Saint Germain Village to enjoy magnificent views of the area !
The Pont-Audemer area stretches over a leafy, unspoilt valley with nature trails to help the young, and not so young, to explore the rich environment. Who can be first to spot tadpoles in a pond, a tree which has been pollarded, a chestnut tree or a silver birch... Great fun for all the family ! Other circular trails go past local heritage curiosities, great for impromptu walks !
In fine weather, April – October in Normandy – you can also explore the countryside by kayak ! Paddle down the tranquil River Risle, or for the more adventurous, have a try at stand-up paddle boarding with an experienced monitor !
Everything appears different at night, so in summer Pont-Audemer runs night time tours to discover the town from a new perspective…
