I booked a two-night stay in what was supposed to be a unique experience — spending a weekend in a real 19th-century château. Unfortunately, the reality was far from what was described and shown on Gîtes de France.

When we arrived, the host was friendly at first but quickly asked me to move my car outside the property to make space for workers the next morning. Our room was very basic, with old furniture, no toiletries, no water, no coffee or tea — not even a welcoming gesture. The bathroom was small and uncomfortable, and the Wi-Fi code was handwritten and unreadable.

We later discovered that breakfast was not served at the château but 300 meters away in the village — something that was not clearly mentioned in the listing. We had no access to the common areas or the lounge with a TV that were advertised. The next morning, we even noticed that the doors to the common rooms were blocked from the outside with a coffee table.

We decided to leave after the first night and informed the host, who agreed. However, Gîtes de France refused my request for a partial refund, even though we did not consume one night and four breakfasts. Their final response took the host’s side without really considering the facts or my experience.

I am very disappointed with both the misleading presentation of this property and the way Gîtes de France handled my complaint. I expected honesty, fairness, and professionalism — but this experience was the opposite. Travelers deserve better transparency and respect.
