A Normandy adventure

We arrive at our gite Auberge du Noyer, Landisacq mid-afternoon, greeted by our host, Madame Costarde with welcoming energy. They have 40ha of pastures that support 40 beef cattle. I am delighted to see our converted barn nestles in the valley bottom, overlooking a water meadow, with a tangle of towering aspens, and alder behind. The gite is well-appointed and filled with light. I feel a surge of nostalgia as I wade through the sunlit, dew-covered mosaic of familiar meadow flora sorrel, and rush, cocksfoot and dock trawled by iridescent green damsel flies and alive with tiny grasshoppers. A pair of buzzards wheels and mews above the trees, and a heron peels gracefully from the riverbank. I cross an ancient flat-stone footbridge and follow a footpath past an 14th century parish boundary cross (during the Nazi occupation, the locals would swivel the cross-head through 90-degrees when there was some Nazi danger nearby). I head up up through a hazel-roofed tunnel, between the sloping pasture land, the vegetable scent of cow-dung hanging in the evening air. Beech mast and leaf litter crunch beneath my feet. It is so lovely to have escaped the uncomfortable mediterranean August heat, and I feel I have fallen into heaven.

This is a great base for exploring the beautiful Normandy landscape with its chateaux, castles, villages, farms, footpaths.

Excellent séjour

Gîte situé au calme, bon accueil. Un très bon séjour, dans une très belle région. Et le restaurant de l'auberge est très bon.

Accueil très chaleureux

Déjà notre 2eme séjour dans ce gîte où nous passons à chaque fois d’agréables moments. Les propriétaires sont très accueillantes et disponibles, tout en étant discrètes. Le gîte est confortable et bien équipé.
Nous y reviendrons, sans nul doute.
