Rochechouart, Chalus Chabrol, Bonneval...Castles in the Haute-Vienne
Rochechouart , built on a rocky promontory, is a 13th- and 15th-century fortress that was remodeled in the 17th and 18th centuries. Its Renaissance courtyard features a gallery with arcades and twisted columns. Inside, two rooms house 16th-century frescoes. The first depicts hunting scenes, while the monumental second evokes the labors of Hercules.

This is where Gargantuapassed through... the giant described by Rabelais is, according to legend, the originator of the 731m peak on the south-eastern edge of the Haute-Vienne. Mont Gargan has been classified as a national natural monument and site. It is also a site of landscape interest in the Parc Naturel Régional de Millevaches en Limousin.
