The Grand Etang de la Jemaye
La Jemaye is typical of the Double area – water and woodlands. It is in the western Dordogne between the Isle Valley and Val de Dronne.
A vast wooded area
At the heart of this vast wooded area in western Dordogne, visitors can gradually explore a network of six inter-connected lakes behind the immense ‘grand étang’ (large lake) which has been the venue for water sports and swimming for over 40 years. 15 years ago Dordogne Council decided to make the site into a model attraction combining nature conservation and leisure facilities for a large number of visitors.
La Jemaye is also the result of a project to make the public aware of the rich diversity of the natural surroundings : the wide variety of trees, plant life specific to wetlands and reedbeds in particular (the areas on the edge of rivers, lakes and freshwater creeks where mainly reeds grow), the presence of rare animals, often protected at national or even European level like the European pond terrapins, and the rich birdlife (observatory at Etang du Tuquet).
The Grand Etang de la Jemaye is a fun place for everyone in safe, clean, peaceful surroundings with plenty to do : swimming, walking or cycling in the forest. You can also visit the Ferme du Parcot, a “Picturesque Site of Dordogne”, at Echourgnac in the Double des Etangs wildlife zone.

Comments by Gîtes de France customers
« Great places for swimming nearby (St Aulaye and La Jemaye). We had a very pleasant stay. »
A restful holiday « A lovely, quiet holiday and a real rest in an area with places to see, to walk, to swim and to eat well … »
At Saint-Aulaye (Water park with swimming in the river or swimming pool, water slides, treetop adventure trails, sauna-hammam).
Catherine and Jean-Paul warmly welcome guests to their gite at Tuilières :
Explore the mysterious Forêt de la Double (forest) and its lakes, discover fine Romanesque churches and listen to the story of the gite in a 17th century manor house from its owner.
You will love the peace and tranquillity of this gite surrounded by meadows, lakes and woodland. It is 8km from Ribérac, near the Forêt de la Double and La Jemaye outdoor activity centre (walking, swimming with lifeguard presence). You can also follow a discovery trail of Romanesque churches and go canoeing on the River Dronne.
Gite owner Franck talks about the area :
Have a relaxing family holiday at one of our three gites at the heart of the Forêt de la Double with its lakes, legends and, above all, tranquillity and rural charm. Enjoy walking and fishing in private lakes during your stay.
The nearby lake at La Jemaye offers swimming (lifeguards) fishing and many facilities. Don’t delay, come and explore this lovely corner of Dordogne and discover Trappe de Bonne Espérance cheese made by monks at the abbey in Echourgnac, the Romanesque, domed churches around Ribérac, and lots more."
