Explore the villages of the Côte Bleue
Each village has its own distinctive character :
Le Rove is famous for its goats, whose exceptional hardiness allows them to cope with the fierce summer droughts. Don’t forget to try Brousse du Rove cheese.
Ensuès-la-Redonne, also known as the « village of five ‘calanques’ (rocky creeks) », covers a succession of rocky creeks and tiny harbours. The picturesque scenery continues inland where almost 80% of the land is covered by ‘garrigue’ and pine trees.
Carry le Rouet has a harbour which is busy at any time of year and some lovely sandy and pebble beaches. Go snorkelling with a guide in the Parc Marin Régional conservation area to explore the amazing sea bed. February is the month of « Les Oursinades », devoted to fishing for sea urchins which are sold on the quayside at Carry.
Sausset-les-Pins is a lovely village for a stroll and for lots of water sports. A typical Provençal market is held every Thursday and Sunday at the harbour.
La Couronne is well known for its fine sandy beaches. The coastal footpath runs for 15km beside the Mediterranean featuring display cases containing fossils (some between 20 and 140 million years old !). The French TV series « Camping Paradis » is made here between April and September !
Carro is popular with surfers, wind-surfers and kite fliers who come to Les Arnettes surf spot to make the most of the Mistral. This traditional fishing village is animated every morning by fishermen selling their catch on the quayside (08.30 – 12.00 during fine weather).
