Sablé-sur-Sarthe – birthplace of Sablé biscuits

Les sablés de Sablé-sur-Sarthe

Brought to the court of Louis XIV by Vatel and named in honour of the Marquess of Sablé, Sablés are small round crumbly, melt-in-the-mouth biscuits made from flour, butter and sometimes egg yolk, which can be eaten at any time of day.

A quality agricultural region, Sarthe offers a lot of accommodation and services linked to agritourism. More and more farmers in Sarthe, proud of their savoir-faire, are taking the plunge through a wish to share their experience and knowledge and also promote their region. Examples are the Jardins de Souvré and its edible flowers and the Ferme des Bleuets and its organic red fruits.
