Vallée de la Seine
The Boucles de la Seine Normande Regional Natural Park covers a vast area between Rouen and le Havre including the final meanders of the Seine before the Pont de Normandie bridge and the estuary.
Orchards nestling at the foot of hillsides, green pastures, thatched cottages topped with irises, majestic abbeys…enjoy Normandy in a nutshell on a signposted bike ride.
The Seine Valley with its broad meanders crossed by splendid bridges is home to the prestigious abbeys of Jumièges, Saint-Wandrille and Saint-Martin-de Boscherville, the magnificent forests of Brotonne, Trait-Maulévrier and Villequier as well as protected areas including the Estuaire and Vallon du Vivier Nature Reserves.
Several themed discovery routes reveal the treasures of the National Park like the Route des Fruits (Duclair, Heurteauville), the Route des Abbayes (Saint-Martin-de-Boscherville, Jumièges, Saint-Wandrille) or the Route des Chaumières (Vieux-Port, Marais Vernier).
The Route des Fruits
The Route des Fruits follows a meander of the Seine where traditionally fruit can be bought ""à la barrière (at the farm gate)"". In spring you find the first cherries (burlat, napoléon), then plums in summer (Gaillon, Reine Claude, Goutte d'Or...) and finally in late summer, old varieties of apple (Reinettes, Cox Orange, Bailleul...). A lovely ride by car or bike among orchards and fruit stalls.
« I love spending the weekend with my family in the Seine Valley, following the river along the towpath from Duclair, admiring the liners and buying seasonal fruit, to the outdoor activity centre at Mesnil-sous-Jumièges. There we have a lovely picnic on the grass, swim in the lake and do some of the activities like pedalo, paddle-boarding, canoeing, trretop adventure trail and bouncy castles… for people of all ages ! ».
