Verdun

Verdun city of dragees

Visite Verdun

With good road and rail links (Paris/Strasbourg autoroute and TGV Est) and close to the borders with Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany, Verdun is well-placed to ensure its economic development. The town, well-known for its dragees,  and its surrounding area have many sites, memorials and discovery centres like the World Centre for Peace, to make sure we « never forget ».

Stroll along the Quai de Londres where concerts are held on summer evenings.

Visitors with a sweet tooth will love Verdun dragees, sugared almonds of all the colours of the rainbow. World-famous and the emblem of the town, the sweets, which were first made in 1220, are an integral part of French gastronomy. Nowadays Maison Braquier is the only factory in Lorraine which makes dragees in the traditional, non-industrial way.

What to do : a lunch-cruise along the Meuse.

Discover Meuse with Gites de France Meuse : Battlefield of Verdun, the town of Commercy, Joan of Arc at Vaucouleurs, Saint-Mihiel and Abbaye Saint-Michel, Citadelle de Montmédy, Etain, Lac de Madine.
