The Meuse is named after the river Meuse. Famous towns include Bar-le-Duc City d'art et d'histoire, Verdun known as the site of the Battle of Verdun, which took place during the 1st World War, Commercy and its cookie specialty "La Madeleine" and its Château. Hikers can discover the Lorraine Regional Nature Park by exploring the Côtes de Toul, one of Lorraine's most exceptional landscapes.
Meurthe-et-Moselle is a picturesque destination. Green forests cover more than a third of the département, such as the Forest de Haye and the Forest Domaniale de la Reine, the two main rivers that cross the territory - the Meurthe and the Moselle - the hills, vineyards and villages with traditional architecture Liverdun, perched on a rocky spur overlooking the Moselle Haraucourt, with its 18th-century church and remarkable bell tower.
The Moselle is named after the river that flows through it. Its magnificent landscapes, history and wines are just some of the reasons to visit this destination. Metz, capital of Lorraine, is a city with a great medieval past, where you can admire Saint-Etienne's Cathedral and the Governor's Palace. Situated on the banks of the Moselle Cœur, Thionville was founded by Julius Caesar. Today, it's famous for its Vineyards. On the gastronomic front, you'll be able to sample mirabelle plum specialties, Boulay macaroons and the famous Lorraine quiche.
Nestled between the mountain ranges of the east and the plains of the west, the Vosges department offers enchanting scenery. Known for its pure air, lush forests and lakes(Gérardmer, the largest lake in the Vosges, and the lakes of Longemer and Retournemer), the Vosges is a nature destination. The Grand Ballon, the highest peak in the Vosges, with its panoramic views as far as the Alps and the Forest, is a must-see in summer or winter.
