Etain is a lovely leafy village on the Woëvre plain at the foot of the Meuse hills with lots of little curiosities to discover like Petitcollin dolls.

Visit the factory where 100% « Made in France » dolls and baby dolls have been made since 1860.
The last remaining French manufacturer of baby dolls and traditional dolls, Petitcollin shares its trade secrets of the different stages of production from raw materials to the finished article.
Etain church, dedicated to Saint-Martin, is one of the most remarkable works in the area. Built of cut stone, it was unfortunately, like the whole of Etain, totally devastated during the First World War (only the outline of the choir and the north wall of the nave remained). It was the first building in the department to become a listed historical monument in 1846 and today it is open to the public. Note the Pieta sculpture, attributed to Ligier Richier.
The Hôtel de Ville (town hall) was also completely destroyed during the Great War. Between 1922 and 1926 it was rebuilt to the original 18th century plans under the supervision of the architect Hornecker. The interior is inspired by the Second Empire with a vast hall, a splendid staircase and a magnificent reception room.
