Alsace is the only region of France crossed by 3 Eurovelo routes, the network of European cycle routes. Coming from Germany, EuroVelo 5 (Via Romea) follows the cycle routes along the Saar and then the Marne-to-Rhine canals to Strasbourg, the Bruche valley and then the cycle trail across Alsace vineyards. Arriving from Switzerland, EuroVelo 15 (the Rhine cycle route) runs parallel to Huningue canal, cuts through Hardt forest, and then follows the northern branch of the Rhine-Rhône canal to Lauterbourg where it passes into Germany. Leaving Franche-Comté, EuroVelo 6 (Atlantik-Black Sea) reaches Mulhouse by the cycle route along the southern branch of the Rhine-Rhône canal before heading off south to Switzerland.
Next, go off on a super adventure for children and a change of scene for grownups on the Bac de Rhinau, an original way of crossing the River Rhine. You are in Germany in just a few minutes. Accessible to cyclists, the Ile de Rhinau Nature Reserve covers around 250 hectares. National nature reserves and parks are the strongest protective measures in France to promote conservation and natural heritage awareness. The Ile de Rhinau Nature Reserve is a patchwork of trees, grass and water. Ponds, reed beds, water meadows and waterways are home to dragonflies, amphibians, fish and birds. Another original way of exploring Alsace is by canoe ! The Canoës du Ried offer canoe trips to discover the natural heritage of the region from the water.
