The vines and the work of wine-growing are presented using an innovative layout and there is also a commented tasting of one Pouilly-sur-Loire and three Pouilly Fumé during the visit. La Cave aux Arômes des Pouilly Fumé is a display in the centre’s beautiful, vaulted wine cellar which enables you to discover the flavours of Pouilly wines (dry, white, fruity AOC) : ten glass flasks containing the aromatic families of Pouilly white wines. The Maison des Sancerre introduces visitors to the different varieties of grapes and the history of its world-famous wines.
Côteaux de Cosne and Côteaux de Gien
The ancestral wine-growing area of the Loire, the Côteaux de Cosne and Côteaux de Gien have maintained the tradition through the ages and progressed to obtain AOC (PDO) status in 1998 for their, often reclusive, rosés, white Sauvignon and reds, a blend of Pinot Noir and Gamay which account for 64% of the total production. The wine-growing area is close to 200 hectares with ⅔ around Cosne-sur-Loire and ⅓ in neighbouring Loiret. Events are programmed throughout the year to promote the wines.
What to see and do on the banks of the Loire in Nièvre
« Take a stroll through the vines then find somewhere to sit with a view of the Loire below to enjoy a picnic washed down with a glass of Pouilly-Fumé, accompanied by Chavignol cheese and delicious Craquants du Val de Loire (almond and hazelnut biscuits) » recommend Christiane and Rémy, owners of La Belle des Champs B&B at Saint-Andelain.
