Lons-Le-Saunier is a pleasant, go-ahead town and also the birthplace of many famous people like Rouget-de-Lisle, author of the Marseillaise. The first inhabitants settled around Puits Salé and the Lédonia hot springs and quickly became aware of the golden opportunity provided by a constant flow of salt water at ground level. In 1892 a spa was built in 7 hectares of grounds, launching the town’s thermal vocation.
Thermes Lédonia is a picturesque building arranged around a central columned entrance porch. People come here for health, fitness and relaxation to enjoythe heated pool (32°C), sauna, steam bath and a range of massage and beauty treatments.

The town is a successful combination of nature and town planning, a wonderful place to live and visit, ideally placed in a magnificent natural environment with remarkable architecture. Walk through the streets of old Lons to admire listed buildings like the theatre, Tour de l’Horloge, statue of Rouget de Lisle, 18th century Hôtel Dieu (hospital) and its amazing apothecary’s dispensary, Place de la Comédie and its vintners’ houses.
Visit the house where Rouget de Lisle was born in the Rue du Commerce which has no fewer than 146 arches. Today the house is a museum tracing the life of the author of the Marseillaise through an exhibition of documents and personal documents. You can also admire paintings and sculptures at the Musée des Beaux Arts.

In 2009, the Maison de la Vache qui Rit (Laughing Cow) opened its doors to children and the young at heart ! Welcome to the place where the first boxes of the famous cheese were produced, with fun exhibitions of souvenirs from the past and plans for the future. Don’t miss the interactive trail for children – an unusual fun way to learn all about the most famous cow of the Jura !
The fun doesn’t stop there in Lons le Saunier. Complexe 1055 is a 6,000m² indoor leisure centre with 18 bowling alleys, a giant indoor play centre, laser game on 2 floors and 2 restaurants, enough to make sure you have a great time ! The town also has a Casino, swimming pool complex and a magnificent golf course not far away. The surrounding countryside of lakes, vines and the Premier Plateau of Jura is an ideal venue for a full range of outdoor activities.
