
Écomusée d’Alsace

If you have just discovered Alsace, come and spend a day at the Écomusée d’Alsace at Ungersheim in the south of the region.
Classed as the largest open-air living museum in France, this village represents Alsace at the turn of the 20th century its architecture, its culture and its people. It is easy to spend a full day here as there are so many things to see and do.
Visitors are immersed in the Alsace of Hansi a famous artist from the region who depicted its life through gay, realistic illustrations during the late 19th-early 20th century.
Colourful, half-timbered houses, shops, school, farm, town hall, fortified tower, wash pool, gardens, chapel, cemetery fields… a replica of a complete village to stroll around..
Numerous events and activities take place at the museum every day in summer. You can have a science lesson at the village school, watch a horse being shod by the blacksmith and even make a terra cotta pot at the pottery or berdelas (small cinnamon Christmas biscuits typical of Alsace) in the huge kitchen. Staff and volunteers make sure that you have a memorable time at this village founded on the principles of sustainable economy !
