The Limousin will astonish you by the sheer variety of its landscapes: The Dordogne and Vienne valleys, the peatlands of the Plateau de Millevaches, the moors and heaths of the Monts d'Ambazac and the Lac de Vassivière. This is an angler's paradise, with brown trout, grayling, carp and carnivorous fish inhabiting 11,000 km of 1st category rivers, 700 km of 2nd category rivers, 5,000 hectares of lakes and dams and more than 3,000 ponds.



You will be astonished by the skills of artisans in Aubusson, Limoges and Tulle, who are respectively renowned for their tapestries, enamels and porcelain and tulle cloth. This is one of the birthplaces of Romanesque art. this is where you can observe the first octagonal steeples, such as those of the abbatial churches of Aubazine, Bénévent-l'Abbaye and Saint-Léonard-de-Noblat.



You should also make the most of local cuisine: delicious meats, trout, pike, crayfish, truffles and cèpes. Amongst the many local specialities are the "bréjaude", a lard and cabbage soup, and the black cherry clafoutis.
