The road to Le Sauze-du-Lac from Savines Le Lake is full of pleasant surprises: after a few bends, you'll be greeted by Demoiselles, known as "fairy chimneys" or Demoiselles Coiffées. This not-to-be-missed site exists thanks to the erosion of glacial deposits by the combined action of wind and snow run-off. The erosion of the soil around the boulder gradually revealed a column of earth "capped" by a stone. The village of Sauze du Lake is perched high above Lake Serre-Ponçon, at the crossroads of the Ubaye and Durance rivers.
