On the outskirts of Angers, Manoir de la Berthière opens the doors to an exceptional 13th and 17th century residence, restored in the spirit of Monuments Historiques. Here, the authenticity of Anjou's heritage - tufa stone, slate and terracotta tiles - blends with modern comforts to offer you a unique experience, combining the charm of yesteryear with the gentleness of life. In the heart of a one-hectare park planted with trees and flowers, a haven of peace for birds and squirrels, this Holiday cottage invites you to savor the Countryside in a privileged setting. The interior has been designed to combine conviviality and comfort. On the first floor, you'll find a vast living-dining room with a stone fireplace, ideal for winter evenings (wood provided), and a fully-equipped kitchen. A first bedroom with a 140x190cm double bed, a wooden Kids bed and a shower room complete this level. Upstairs, you'll find a convivial lounge with a library, French billiards table and table soccer. Two additional bedrooms, one in the manor's tower, offer quality bedding (one with a 140x190cm bed and the second with two 90x190cm beds), as well as a second shower room. There's also a table soccer table. Outside, you'll find everything you need to make the most of the warm weather: garden furniture, deckchairs, plancha, petanque court, not forgetting the chance to meet the animals on the property (ponies, sheep, rabbits, ducks). Families will appreciate the swing, the complete baby equipment and the secure area. As for leisure activities, there are numerous walks and cycle rides directly from the Holiday cottage, and swimming is possible in summer in the Loir at Villevêque, just 5 km away. Angers and its treasures are just a few minutes away, as are the Loire castles, Vineyards, Fontevraud Abbey, Saumur and its Cadre Noir, Doué Biopark and Puy du Fou. Close to shops, the Angers Exhibition Center and the A11/A85 freeways (exit 13). Heat pump heating extra, depending on season (€30 to €80). Bed linen and towels provided. End-of-stay cleaning optional.

Séjour d’exception, le manoir est magnifique. Les enfants ont adoré leur séjour et nous aussi. Les hôtes sont très accueillants et disponibles si nous avons une question ou un souci. Nous avons passé un très bon moment. Merci encore. Nous reviendrons avec grand plaisir.

Elo Excellent séjour au Manoir de la Berthière
La vie de château pendant 1 semaine! Excellent séjour en famille avec 2 ados, dans cet ancien château fort parfaitement restauré par les propriétaires avec beaucoup de goût et d'authenticité. Le charme de l'ancien mais avec tout le confort moderne et les équipements nécessaires (lave vaisselle, tout ce qu'il faut et même plus pour cuisiner, lave linge et sèche linge, 2 salles de bains et deux WC...). Une maison très spacieuse dans un.environnement très calme et agréable, très beau jardin en compagnie des écureuils.

Daniel A beautiful historic gîte in peaceful countryside
The house has been restored beautifully. We had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.
The hosts were happy to accommodate our arrival in the evening at 8:30pm, and even though our French was poor and Mr Troillard didn't speak English, we were able to communicate well as he showed us around the gîte.
The host's son came as we were being shown around, as he spoke more English, and reassured us by leaving his telephone number, in case we needed anything.
Some practical observations for future guests:
The WiFi was good in most of the house, except for some bedrooms, due to the 3ft thick solid stone walls.
The WiFi tended to turn off in the evening between 10:30-midnight (possibly the host turns off the router when they go to bed, but I'm not certain).The heating was surprisingly effective for such an old uninsulated building towards the end of October. At some times it was even a bit too warm. We assume it has underfloor heating as there were very few radiators and the tile and brick floors were slightly warm in the mornings.
I wouldn't try to order a takeaway food delivery though, as the Uber Eats driver we used couldn't find the address in the dark, and I had to go out and collect food anyway an hour or so later.
The local amenities are very good, but you'll definitely want a car for your stay. This opens up to you the beautiful city of Angers, nearby, Nantes and Puy du Fou are within 1.5hrs drive, and there are loads of pretty villages in all directions.
So all-in-all the gîte is an amazing place to stay and is close enough to anything you may want. A great location to have as your home base for your holiday.

Roy Lovely stay at an an amazing house with nice garden
The house is like a small castle with attractive grounds. I was with my wife and grown up family and we had a great time. We enjoyed playing billiards and bar football in the house, and sitting outside to enjoy the sun, to dine, and to watch the red squirrels.
