If you're a history buff, be sure to visit the Cathar castles dotted around the region. These impressive remains will plunge you back into medieval times and offer breathtaking panoramas.
Finally, for food lovers, Lagrasse is packed with restaurants and local markets where you can sample the delights of regional cuisine, such as cassoulet and local produce.
In season, you can also take advantage of supervised swimming in the Orbieu river, or explore the region's cultural heritage, with the Cité de Carcassonne, the Abbaye de Fontfroide and the Mediterranean beaches just 45 minutes away...
The Holiday cottage, nestled in a quiet, typical village street, has a private, enclosed outdoor space with garden furniture and barbecue, where you can park medium-sized vehicles while maneuvering (paid public parking lot €5/day, 5 minutes' walk away). Ground floor: large living room with kitchen opening onto terrace, separate toilet, laundry area. On the 1st floor, two open-plan bedrooms separated by a bathroom with WC, 2 single beds (90cm) and 1 double bed (140cm).
Electricity consumption: 2kwH/day/person included. Excess consumption to be paid to owner at end of stay.

Très beau gîte, spacieux et très propre.
Le bémol au niveau des fenêtres (sans volets) les barreaux présents ne protégeant pas du soleil et donc de la chaleur bien présente lors de notre séjour.
Idem pour la baie vitrée qui possède bien un store mais qu'il est impossible de laisser ouver en raison du vent très violent, au risque de le casser.
Ceci dit nous reviendrons avec plaisir mais à une période de l'année moins chaude (en principe).
Le propriétaire est charmant et de bons conseils.
Dommage également la gestion du stationnement payant tous les jours à l'autre bout du village !!- Cleanliness

Les Familles Anglais Lovely Stay In Modern Apartment
Lovely villa and well suited for a family of four right in the heart of Lagrasse. Very easy access to the river for swimming and the bakery and a range of good restaurants. Lagrasse is well positioned to cover much of Aude and what it has to offer, be it beaches, castles, wineries, cities, countryside or just relaxation.
The house is well appointed with many items meaning you don't need to run out and buy staples, just replace as you go.
We didn't meet the landlady, but she communicated excellently via e mail and provided details in an emergency situation so we knew what to do (wildfire) for which we were grateful.
A few watch outs:
Lagrasse has very limited mobile reception and in the medieval town almost zero. It would be good to have WiFi in the house for planning and making online reservations etc. (although there is something good about being a bit cut off, kids can live without their games for two weeks). This would mean you don't have to go out into the main road to get a basic signal. Someone on Orange proper may fair better.Unless you have a small (Clio type) or an excellent turning circle you won't be able to park in the courtyard. Parking is in the public carparks and free from 18:00 to 10:00 hours (use P3, it is the nearest). If you are not so good at walking then it might be a problem. We took to dropping things at the top of the road and going and parking - Lagrasse is super safe!
If you are a light sleeper, the church bells MAY be a problem but that will be anywhere in Lagrasse!
A walk in shower would help - or at least a curtain and attachment for the head over the bath (children tried hard to keep water in the bath but always failed)
We'd very happily go back.
