The village of St-Michel de Montjoie lies high above the bay of Mont-St-Michel, historically known as a place where pilgrims passed through. Just a stone's throw from the gîte, the orientation table at the church affords an exceptional panoramic view of the entire Mortainais valley, and in fine weather, a glimpse of the outline of the Merveille. The commune remains the last center of extraction of a granite known as "Bleu de Vire". You can discover this history by taking a stroll through the granite museum in the heart of the village, which has been classified as a "Heritage Village". Spacious and luminous, this granite dwelling now boasts an attractive contemporary interior that highlights the stonework still visible. For hiking enthusiasts, the surrounding hills are a great playground for walking or cycling, with the GR22 (long-distance hiking trail linking Notre Dame de Paris to Mont-St-Michel) in particular.
