In this natural setting of greenery, they have worked to preserve traditional buildings through self-construction, seeking a return to simplicity and authenticity. Local materials, recycled materials and self-reliance are the guiding principles of this project of a lifetime, with a particular focus on the larch shingle roofs that give the site its unique character. In addition to its ecological credentials, the Maison du Pré is remarkable for its accessibility to the disabled. The owners have meticulously thought through every aspect of the property, so that anyone in a wheelchair, hearing-impaired or visually impaired can live comfortably.
