The Terres de Chartres: between heritage and nature
The city of Chartres also has a very rich history that you will discover in its medieval quarters, in its museums and in the workshops of its master glassmakers! We recommend that you visit the Loire family workshops in Lèves, tel: 02 37 21 20 71.
North side of the cathedral you will visit the International Center of Stained Glass which represents ancestral techniques and contemporary research! You are in the old cellar of Loëns with a magnificently vaulted level! The Museum of Fine Arts is also a building steeped in history, as the former palace of the bishop.
A visit to Maison Picassiette is a must, even with the family! Naïve art triumphs throughout the house, its annexes and the garden! You should not leave the Chartres region without having visited: La Tanière in Nogent-le-Phaye, the first zoo-refuge in France which welcomes, on more than 14 hectares, more than 600 animals from rescues.
The Chandres brewery, which offers a wide range of recognized beers: L'Eurélienne, located in the town of Sours. Its shop of local products is irresistible!
There are numerous café terraces and restaurants throughout the city to take a break between these visits and discover local products: artisanal beers and juices, chips, poultry, terrines, foie gras, local vegetables and fruits...!
In season, we recommend the Little Venice tavern - A haven of peace on the banks of the Eure. And at nightfall, every evening from April to early January, 20 sites in the city are enhanced with light and music! Let yourself be won over by the magic of this free trip to “Chartres en Lumières” where you will travel at your own pace or on a little train!
