Daluis Canyon
Winding and dizzying road, overlooking the Var River canyon in the heart of a classified Regional Nature Reserve extending over more than 1,000 hectares in the communes of Guillaumes and Daluis.
On this road, discover natural sculptures, which have been designed by erosion. Like this rock in the shape of the Head of a Woman “the Guardian of the Gorges”.
Walk to “Point Sublime” (900m) overlooking the Gorges de Daluis for an incredible view...
Discover the “Pont de la Mariée” which spans the canyon and which is a delight for bungee jumping enthusiasts.
Guillaumes, dominated by the ruins of its 15th century castle-keep, an essential stopover on the Route des Grandes Alpes.
Take departmental road 29 following the Tuébi torrent, cross Péone, a medieval village at the foot of the dolomitic needles, called the “Demoiselles” before arriving at the Valberg resort and/or going down to the village/resort of Beuil by the Cians Canyon.
The Cians Valley and Land of Croix sur Roudoule
The Cians Valley :
The landscape of red rocks, is close to that of the Daluis gorges, but here, the road, inaugurated at the end of the 19th century, runs at the bottom of the valley. We feel very small there...!
The village of Beuil located at the foot of the Valberg station, the main winter sports resort in the Alpes-Maritimes, emerges from the Cians gorges.
Valberg, departure from Mont Mounier, highest limestone massif in the Alpes-Maritimes (2,817 meters).
The Land of Croix sur Roudoule
Already inhabited during the Roman era, the remains of which are still visible, the peak of the village was in the 1860s with the exploitation of the Léouvé copper mines.
Also discover the successive bridges : the medieval bridge, the mule bridge (1842) and the suspension bridge (1889) 90 meters above the Roudoule gorges by the metal bridge specialist Ferdinand Arnodin.
How to get there :
The RD6202/RN202 takes you to the Gorges de Daluis, the Cians valley as well as the Pays de la Croix sur Roudoule.
The Gorges de Daluis are also accessible by the Route des Grandes Alpes (D902/D2202) via the Col de la Cayolle (open in the summer season).
