The small rural heritage of mills and washhouses is very numerous, as are the castles, the beautiful residences and the churches decorated with frescoes and murals.
The Loir Valley by bike is also the name of a cycle route that begins at the source of this river, in Saint-Eman, a peaceful village that leads to Illiers-Combray. This quiet valley can only seduce you, for a weekend or a holiday! Its towns on a human scale offer a heritage worthy of interest: Illiers-Combray, 25 km south-west of Chartres, where Marcel Proust spent his holidays.
In addition to beautiful walks along the river and its washhouses, discover: the imposing Saint-Jacques church and its polychrome paneled vault, Aunt Léonie's house where time stood still at the time of her nephew , Marcel Proust, and the peaceful Parc du Pré Catelan, listed as a remarkable garden. Brou, classified as a "green holiday resort" with its hall, its very dynamic market on Wednesday mornings and its half-timbered houses, as well as its washhouse promenade. Its Saint Marc chapel is a place of recognized exhibitions.
Bonneval, a picturesque town with its fortified walls, pierced by impressive gates.
You can picnic on the Grève promenade! This "Little Venice of Beauce" allows you to rent an electric boat, paddle on the Loir and discover the frescoes of the artist CVZ! Children will also appreciate the escape game to be carried out in the city, to the shop of local products, the Vergers de Beauce Châteaudun, one of the most beautiful detours in France!
In this picturesque city, take the time to visit the fortified castle, extended during the Renaissance, its prisons and kitchens, as well as its keep and medieval garden! Interlaced neighborhoods from the Middle Ages and symmetrical streets and squares from the 18th century are to be explored at your own pace. The caves of Foulon are a nice surprise, as is the Guinguette des Fouleries, very close!
Cloyes-sur-le-Loir, classified as a stopover village! Parc Emile Zola, located just behind the town hall, is ideal for a break with picnic tables and a playground. At nightfall, do not miss the walk in Le Jardin des Lumières. The Notre Dame d'Yron chapel, its frescoes and its gardens are to be discovered. We recommend the Saturday morning market.
In the Loir Valley, artists’ workshops and local producers are there, of course! Remember this real boon for families: numerous leisure centers along rivers or bodies of water: Brou, Marboué, Arrou, Cloyes-les-Trois Rivières, and 3 canoe kayak clubs in Bonneval, Châteaudun and Cloyes. You can rent electric boats at the Capitainerie de Bonneval where the lighting of the surrounding ditches of the medieval town is worth your nighttime visit!
