Make no mistake: you're in the mining basin, a land steeped in history, where industrial and cultural heritage can be seen around every corner. But you're in for a surprise: you'll be staying in this wooden Chalet, with its mountainous charm... but with a very local touch. Here, the "mountains" are the slag heaps, the black mounds left over from mining operations, visible for miles around. There are around 200 left in the area, each offering a unique panorama of the region.

For everyone, the slag heaps are an adventure in themselves: you can admire them from their base, climb up to enjoy a 360° view, or even slide down one of them thanks to the LoisiNord Base de loisirs. Kids will particularly appreciate this mix of nature and fun. To discover the fascinating history of the miners, the Museums de la Mine in Lewarde offers immersive tours suitable for young and old alike.

But there's much more to the region than its industrial past. The local architecture is well worth a visit: the listed belfries of Béthune, the elegant Flemish houses in the historic squares of Arras and the charming villages with their colorful facades tell the story of a region proud of its heritage.
