Isola 2000 – get close to nature in summer
An hour and a half from Nice, the resort of Isola 2000 high in the southern Alps is a super holiday destination in both summer and winter ! Close to the Italian border at 2,000m altitude, it is an invitation to enjoy clean mountain air and beautiful scenery between the Parc National du Mercantour and the Parco Naturale Alpi Marittime. In summer, Isola 2000 offers a wide range of activities for lovers of the great outdoors.
On the programme : mountain biking along tracks or in the bike park, road cycling, walking, rock-climbing, treetop adventure trails for children and grown-ups followed by a relaxing swim in the pool. A perfect recipe to recharge your batteries !
The surrounding countryside is simply magnificent with footpaths along the Chemin des Italiens, through the Col de la Mercière and Col de la Lombarde to mountain lakes like the Lacs de Terres Rouges...
Isola is also great for cycling with 3 emblematic mountain passes between 1,900m and 3,000m within easy reach : Col de Larche (1,991m) a crossing point between Italy and France, Cime de la Bonette (2,802m), the highest road in Europe and Col de la Lombarde (2,350m), regularly visited by the Tour de France and the Giro. Mountain bikers are not forgotten with a bike park and 14km of tracks between the village and the resort.
Winter skiing holidays at Isola 2000
Isola 2000 is a ski resort with 42 pistes and a snowpark
In winter the green slopes turn white offering 42 downhill ski pistes and a snowpark for young boarding enthusiasts. The resort is not too big and the ski area is open to skiers of all levels. The resort is divided into 3 sectors, each for different activities and levels of experience :
Pelevos is for beginners and competitors. It also contains the snowpark which has space reserved for « freestylers ».
Saint-Sauveur is for experienced skiers who like curves and bumps.
Lombarde (faces due south), is on the Italian border and dotted with military remains. It is perfect for skiing in sunshine or snowshoe walks towards the Italian side for an excellent view of the resort.
Further downhill (17km and several hairpin bends…), lies the typical little village of Isola and its ‘Aquavallée’ aquatic centre (swimming pool, slides, wellness centre with sauna, hammam, jacuzzi), the perfect place to relax and unwind after a busy day on the ski slopes or walking.
The resort of Isola 2000 is 90km from Nice in the Alpes-Maritimes region. Take the road for Grenoble, then follow La Tinée.
In summer (and only in summer) you can take the road from Barcelonnette through Col de la Bonette which has fantastic panoramic views. Coming from Italy, head for Col de la Lombarde, the resort is 4km after the summit.
The resort can also be reached by shuttle bus. Regular services run from Nice railway station and Nice Côte d’Azur airport – bus number 750
The ski area normally opens for the first weekend in December and often benefits from good snow cover until the end of April
