The ancient capital of Elusa - 3 Gallo-Roman sites
ELUSA Capitale Antique regroups 3 Gallo-Roman sites very close to one another : the Villa de Séviac at Montréal du Gers, the Musée Archéologique/Le Trésor d'Eauze and the Domus de Cieutat and its interpretation centre at Eauze. Every year, a full and varied programme of cultural events allows adults and children to learn about the site while having fun. Special price tickets are available to visit 2 of the sites, or all 3.
The Cathedral of Saint Luperc is at the centre of the town of Eauze. Perched on a hill surrounded by vineyards, the capital of Armagnac is rightly proud of its identity and architectural and historic heritage, well-represented by its cathedral. The Andalusian style arena was built by the local council and opened in 1982, since 1992 it has been called Nimeno II in tribute to a French matador who took part in every corrida in Eauze until being tragically injured at Arles. There is a commemorative plaque at the entrance to the arena which was built in keeping with tradition : red brick, wrought iron stands decorated with coats of arms of the best-known fighting bull breeding farms in Spain. The arena holds 4,000 people who come to watch shows, ‘courses landaises’ and bullfights in summer.
