Port-Camargue - La Petite Camargue in the Gard

port_camargue_2_©D.Demouy_poi_30

Port Camargue is part of the Camargue Gardoise Grand Site de France. Observe the flora and fauna in the Nature Reserve around the Etang de la Marette and the Etang du Scamandre, admire the Tour Carbonnière, take part in the ‘tri des taureaux’ (bull sorting) at one of the numerous ‘manades’. Don’t miss a trip to the medieval town of Aigues-Mortes, steeped in 2,000 years of history, or the Salins du Midi to find out the secrets of salt-harvesting.

Alexandre, booking agent at Gîtes de France du Gard says : « I love going with my workmates for a gourmet picnic on the beach at sunset. We sometimes go to one of the varied musical events in summer or enjoy long walks along the beaches which run the length of the town with a delicious ice cream at the end as a reward.»

You can get to Grau du Roi - Port Camargue by car, by bike along the Via Rhôna, by train (Nîmes-Le Grau du Roi is 1€ one-way) and by bus from Nîmes or Montpellier. Once here, it is easy to cycle around or take a bike-taxi or ordinary taxi.
