Port Camargue, Le Grau du Roi.

Welcome to the heart of La Petite Camargue and the centre of the largest marina in Europe. Construction of the harbour began in 1963 and was completed in 1985. There are lots of ways to explore the 5km perimeter of this huge harbour which has no fewer than 4,600 berths, boat maintenance areas, marinas and apartments, shops and restaurants. Walk or cycle along the different quays and stop off to try local specialities. In fact some of the best restaurants in Grau du Roi are found here. You can also discover the harbour from the sea on boat trips which are available almost all year round. A full programme of events take place throughout the year making Port-Camargue an ideal destination for everyone – families, sporting enthusiasts, older visitors, foodies, night birds and adventurers !

A wide range of watersports are available like kitesurfing, paddle-boarding, jet-ski, kayaking on the sea or lakes, and also tennis and beach volleyball. For those who prefer something more relaxing, there is a Thalassotherapy Centre facing the sea. Other activities include sea fishing trips, diving, and 4x4 safaris. The town has an aquarium, Seaquarium, which has the largest shark pool in Europe.  Night-time entertainment can be found at the Casino, funfair and numerous beach restaurants in summer. There is also a beach which is the only one of its kind in France, Plage de l’Espiguette, which is still in its wild, natural state. Discover its unique ecosystem on a guided nature walk or on horseback from one of the ‘manades’ which line the road. Let’s not forget the multitude of fun, sporting, cultural and traditional events which take place throughout the year, like the ‘combats de joutes’ (local jousting from boats) on the channel in the old village.
