Conques Plus beau village de France

Conques and Belcastel

Conques – a ‘must see’ village on the pilgrim route to Santiago de Compostela

Conques-Marcillac - lose yourself in the culture and gastronomy of Aveyron

Visitez Conques

The area has numerous artists and craftspeople who welcome visitors to their studios and workshops : potters, sculptors, engravers, jewellery-makers, upholsterers, textile artists, cutlers, metalworkers, leather workers and poets. Come and see traditional and contemporary works of art, decorative and useful objects.

There’s no better way to soak up the local atmosphere than by strolling around the markets at Marcillac or St Cyprien where you can try local specialities :  Soleil de Marcillac ‘ a local pastry, farçous, estofinados, accompanied by red or rosé AOP Marcillac wine. In summer a visit to the evening producer’s market at Valady is a delicious way to end the day. Here you can see ‘tassous’ shallow silver cups for wine tasting (the largest tassou in the world can be seen at  Bruéjouls !) and ‘liadous’, originally working knives used by Marcillac wine-growers to tie vines to willow stakes, and today quality designer knives.
