Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Dax
Take the waters in the spa town of Dax
The cathedral Notre-Dame-de-Dax is a major attraction of Les Landes, so much so that as you stroll through the streets of the famous spa town, it seems unthinkable not to end up there ! Dax is a little town between Bayonne and Mont-de-Marsan which cleverly combines the attributes of a spa town, Pays Basque and the traditions of south-west France. It is a popular destination for couples and highlights its advantages as a short break destination and is particularly proud of its hot springs and mud. There are numerous spa centres offering both medical and wellness treatment. Once you are feeling suitably relaxed, head for Rue Cazade and the entrance to the Roman crypt or explore the ramparts which date from the 4th century. Next, walk through the unusual streets of the historic centre to the Fontaine Chaude, which brings you to the front of the imposing cathedral Notre-Dame-de-Dax. Enjoy !

Visiting the area around Dax
Although spa treatment is an integral part of any visit to Dax, it’s a good idea to go off the beaten track and explore other aspects of the area. Walk along the shaded paths around Lac de Christus in the neighbouring town of Saint-Paul-lès-Dax or along the boardwalk through the Estanque wetlands at Mées.
Return to Dax to enjoy local traditions and folklore at Les Arènes (arena) where bullfighting is an important part of local customs. After visiting the arena, sit down at a pavement café for a meal or a drink and watch night fall over the Adour.
