Château de Biron
Château de Biron, a « Major Attraction of Aquitaine »
The immense outline of Château de Biron castle stands proudly on a promontory in Dordogne, on the border between Périgord and Agenais regions. Built during the Middle Ages, the destiny of the castle was inextricably linked to the Gontaut-Biron family for 800 years. This important Périgord family, close to the Kings of France, owned the baronial estate until 1938. The castle has buildings from the different periods of its history including a medieval keep, Renaissance main building and chapel and neo-classical terrace with open views to the horizon.
It is hardly surprising to learn that the castle has been the backdrop for many films including « La Fille de d’Artagnan (Revenge of the Musketeers) » and « Le Pacte des Loups (Brotherhood of the Wolf) ».
The castle continues to evolve in the 21st century with the superb restoration of the main reception halls into a venue for major exhibitions of contemporary art .
