What to see and do at Utah Beach
At Sainte-Marie-du-Mont, renamed Utah Beach, there is a 3,000m² museum entirely devoted to the Normandy Landings. On D-Day, 6 June 1944, 150,000 men set foot on the sand at Sainte-Marie-du-Mont and left their mark on history.
The Utah Beach Museum displays first-hand accounts, a collection of objects, an exceptional B26 bomber from the period, flight simulators and the superb film Victory in the Sand to present and preserve the memory of the Allied Soldiers. Around the museum, several monuments pay tribute to the soldiers who came to liberate France.
During your holiday at Utah Beach, don’t forget to visit the Domaine de Beauguillot, a nature reserve at the heart of Baie des Veys. It is home to a large number of species of flowering plants, insects, birds, molluscs, mammals, amphibians and reptiles. You may get the chance to see some seals. After your discovery visit, relax and unwind in the peace and quiet of your gite at Utah Beach.
Not far from Utah Beach
Not far from Utah Beach, walk along past the pretty colourful houses in the little village of Ravenoville. The main beach is great for water sports, relaxing and walking and the Plage aux Dunes beach is a wonderful place to sit and watch the sunset.
Visit Sainte-Mère-Eglise, the first town liberated by the Americans and admire the dummy of parachutist John Steel hanging from the church tower. While in the town, make sure you go to the Airborne Museum, the largest museum in Europe devoted to American paratroopers.
A few kilometres from Utah Beach is the Marais du Cotentin et du Bessin Regional Park, a haven of tranquillity for walking and nature watching. There are plenty of places to visit and things to do in and around Utah Beach to make sure you have a wonderful holiday.
For a change of epoch, visit the chic seaside resort of Barneville-Carteret with its attractive 19th century villas, on the Côte des Isles 50km from Utah Beach. It is also a ferry terminal for trips to the Channel Island of Guernsey.

By road :
From Caen, take RN13 towards Cherbourg, after approx. 76km take exit for Sainte-Mère-Eglise.
From Cherbourg, take RN13 towards Caen, after 45km, take exit D70 (after exit for Sainte Mère Eglise)
By rail : to Carentan then taxi to Utah beach
By air : Airports at Rennes, Caen, Deauville, Cherbourg-Maupertus
By boat : Ferry terminals at Barneville Carteret, Granville, and Cherbourg"
