La plage du Diamant

Le Diamant – a famous rock

The history of Le Rocher du Diamant

Plage du Diamant

A former haunt of pirates, but also a strategic site for the defence of the island during the Anglo-French Wars, the Rocher du Diamant is today a conservation area which is closed to the public.

It is home to the Couresse grass snake, the last grass snake native to the island, and lots of birds (frigate birds, tropicbirds, brown boobies).

However, it is possible to get close to this gem and admire its majesty as the galleons and warships of yesteryear have made way for diving boats. This is the best-known diving spot on the island, where divers come to discover the underwater flora, fauna and caves.

Those who prefer relaxing can enjoy another attraction of Le Diamant, its long shady beach of white sand, a real invitation to do nothing.
