Famous for its fortified town, Bonifacio is also well-known for its 70m high white limestone cliffs sculpted by the salty air. The town is at the southern tip of Corsica, just 17km from Sardinia. In days gone by, the cliffs protected the town from attack, nowadays they offer spectacular views and the sight of houses perched on the edge like tightrope walkers is sure to take your breath away.
The cliffs are equally amazing both outside and inside as they house numerous sea caves.
Sight-seeing in Bonifacio
The hidden sea caves and cliffs abound with imaginative shapes characteristic of Corsica. Boat trips take you right into the sea caves where you can see clear blue water, stalactites and stalagmites.
Boat trips also run to the Iles Lavezzi, a group of islands teeming with unique, endemic plants.
There are several ‘absolute musts’ to see during your stay in Bonifacio.
Grain de Sable rock, a stack just off the cliffs, the result of an ancient rockslide.
The Escalier du Roi d'Aragon, a flight of 187 steps cut into the cliff, leading to a cave. Legend has it that the steps were made in a single night by an army which came from Spain to conquer the town, in vain…
The Chemins de Ronde rampart walk offers a tour of the medieval fortifications of the town.

Wander through the street and alleyways of the old town and admire the beautiful timeless architecture.
Glance through a half-open door in the old town at a flight of steps which looks more like a step ladder, watch people chatting from balconies across streets so narrow that they can almost touch one another, enjoy the smiles and hospitality of the tanned local people – all these little moments make for a wonderful, unique holiday.

Bonifacio is also a paradise for water sports (windsurfing, stand up paddle-boarding, kite-surfing, kayaking) as the resort benefits from around 250 windy days per year. The absence of pollution, clear water and rich underwater sea life make it a dream destination for divers too.
Lovers of the great outdoors can make the most of the countryside around Bonifacio by walking, family outings or maybe a round of golf at Sperone …
A few kilometres away, Porto-Vecchio is a very lively place to visit by day and at night too !
The region also has some magnificent, iconic beaches including Rondinara, Santa Giulia and Palombaggia as well as a myriad of hidden coves that you come across while out walking.
How to get to Bonifacio ?
Getting to Bonifacio is a piece of cake :
The nearest port is Porto-Vecchio, about 20km away. The ports of Bastia and Ajaccio are both a 2 hour drive.
Figari airport is 45 minutes away with regular flights to and from Paris, Marseille and Nice plus many seasonal domestic and international flights.
