What to see and do at Fort-de-France ?
With its magnificent bay and lush vegetation (which appear even more beautiful when approaching from the sea), the capital has a variety of fascinating places to enchant visitors :
- Plage de la Française beach where you can relax after a walk around the streets of the town, while children play on the swings and different seaside play equipment.
- A multitude of shops, markets including the very colourful indoor fruit and vegetable market, where the scent of fragrant local spices can be enjoyed from the early morning onwards.
- Its architecture, museums, grand historic monuments like the Cathedral of Saint-Louis, Bibliothèque Schoelcher (library), Fort Saint Louis, and other smaller treasures scattered around the town.
- The coolness of its countryside with waterfalls, rivers and gardens.
If you wish, passenger ferries make regular 15 minute crossings to the beautiful beaches of Trois Ilets.
