The Verdon is one of Europe's most beautiful canyons, carved out by the Verdon river over thousands of years, between the communes of Castellane and Moustiers Sainte Marie in the Alpes de Haute Provence and the Var. From the springs to the Gorges du Verdon, you can enjoy a wide range of thrilling activities, from rafting and paragliding to hiking, white-water kayaking and swimming. In winter, Alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, snowshoeing and tobogganing or mushing will satisfy all tastes!
Patiently carved out over thousands of years by the river of the same name, the Gorges du Verdon is one of Europe's most beautiful canyons, separating the Préalpes de Castellane and the Préalpes de Dignes. Criss-crossed by numerous hiking trails, this destination is particularly popular with walkers, as well as with rock climbers, canoeists, rafters and canyoneers.
Located within the Verdon Regional Nature Park, the Verdon gorges are divided into three sections: the pre-gorges, the canyon and the gorges. It's in the latter that you'll find some of the finest Hiking trails, such as the sentier de l'Imbut, a ten-kilometer circuit suitable for experienced walkers. It starts on the left bank of the Verdon and takes you through the " Styx du Verdon ", which forms a mini canyon within the canyon itself. The Martel trail takes you on a 15-kilometre stroll from Point Sublime, one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the canyon. With 1,500climbing routes and numerous cliffs, the Verdon Gorge is not only a mecca for rock climbers in France, but also for water sports enthusiasts, including pedal-boat trips down the river.
The villages of Rougon and La Palud-sur-Verdon offer well-deserved breaks from the hustle and bustle of the hustle and bustle, and allow you to discover the architecture and charm typical of the lower Alpine valleys. From Lake Sainte-Croix to the Valensole plateau, across numerous lakes and hills, the Verdon Regional Nature Park, which surrounds the gorges, is dotted with numerous villages that allow you to discover the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and Var in their natural setting, between mountains and valleys.
