Suisse Normande
A long way from the country of the same name, between Calvados and Orne, Normandy Switzerland owes its nickname to its rugged, verdant terrain, reminiscent of its Swiss cousin, although its highest peak is only 300 meters high.
Thanks to its generous shapes, the region has become a popular destination foradventure and outdoor sports enthusiasts, but it also harbors a number of cultural treasures.
For canoeing and kayaking, the village of Pont-d'Ouilly has a Base de loisirs from which you can take a river trip along theOrne, or practice kayak polo, with one of France's top clubs training in the City. Along the way, you'll have the chance to stop off at the Château de Pontécoulant, which is the starting point for a number of Hiking trails, including the Roche au Renard and the Roche d'Oëtre, one of the most beautiful lookouts in western France.
Numerous picturesque villages nestle along the slopes carved out by the River Orne, such as Clécy, dominated by the Viaduc de la Lande and featuring numerous buildings with typical Norman architecture. The cliffs near the village are ideal for outdoor activities such as hang-gliding, rock-climbing or paragliding, and every Sunday evening, a waterside guinguette welcomes you for a few dances.
For an introduction to water sports, a visit to the Rabodanges hydroelectric dam, in addition to its architectural interest, will enable you to practice motorboating and water skiing in its artificial lake, specially designed for the occasion. And since all these activities require strength, Normandy's gastronomy, specializing in cheeses, charcuterie and cider, will fill you up with energy and flavour.
With its gorges and valleys reminiscent of the most beautiful landscapes in the Alps, and the charm of Normandy mixed in with it, Suisse Normande offers you a vast, unspoilt territory specializing in outdoor activities, enabling you to spend an invigorating and tasty vacation.
