Typical & steeped in history, the cradle of shale mining in the Autunois region (in the late 19th century), this former mining town with its world-renowned deposits (a few vestiges of this period remain just a few kilometers away) nestles at the crossroads of the verdant valleys of the Arroux & Drée (fish-filled rivers) in a bucolic, undulating natural setting, with a mix of agriculture & nature, between arable fields, wooded meadows, rivers & ponds and deep, wild forests (including the nearby Planoise national forest, one of the largest in France, and the famous vast Morvan forest massif).
