Vallée Des Singes - Romagne
Vallée des Singes – discover monkeys living out in the open !!
Seeing monkeys living out in the open is an amazing experience. Here you can get right up close to the most diverse collection of apes in France.
Everything about these animals is astonishing : their size, colour, agility, strength and intelligence. A broad diversity of monkeys from tiny pygmy marmosets to placid gorillas, flamboyant golden lion tamarinds to colourful mandrills, acrobatic gibbons and spider monkeys, vivacious squirrel monkeys and energetic chimpanzees. All of them show off their skills quite freely in a 20 hectare park divided into 15 zones with no cages or fences. The Vallée des Singes has recorded more than 800 births since its opening : an exceptional number for France and for Europe ! Spend a day in the countryside in direct contact with the 450 monkeys.
Vallée des Singes : a Conservation Centre for the Protection of Primates
The Vallée des Singes is also a Conservation Centre for the Protection of Primates, created to protect monkeys and their habitats. If you wish, you can take part by sponsoring a monkey or making a donation. You can also spend a day working alongside a keeper.
Feeding times are wonderful moments in this amazing place and offer the opportunity to learn a little more about each species and to see how they interact with humans. Different exhibitions show what life is like behind the scenes at Vallée des Singes - the arrival of a new animal, treatment, births and research work – providing further insight into these not so distant relatives of ours.
What to see and do near the Vallée des Singes
Less than 10 minutes away is the Musée du Cormenier at Champniers, and a trip back to the 20th century. Half of the museum is devoted to the first part of the 20th century with the reconstitution of the everyday life of a rural family. The other half is more interactive and concentrates on the ‘30 Glorieuses’, the years from 1945 to 1975. A great place to visit for all the family ! The Parc de la Belle is around 10 minutes from the Vallée des Singes too. Here you can enjoy a colourful, fragrant walk in 12-hectares of rolling countryside around a 19th century country house. There is also a play park and an adventure game to keep everyone amused. Special reductions for joint tickets with 2 other sites.
