Le Tombolo – an exceptional phenomenon !
Every year, from February to June, an exceptional natural phenomenon takes place in the commune of Sainte Marie : a strip of sand connecting the land to an islet appears and you can walk along it !
The Tombolo is the result of marine currents and the swell. It can be crossed on foot, horseback or by mule to reach the islet which offers some breathtaking views.
Refuge of roseate terns

Access to the upper part of the islet is forbidden to the public from April onwards as roseate terns nest there. The tombolo is a great idea for a family outing as crossing the sea which appears to be « cut in 2 », is quite simply … magic !
