The Monts d’Arrée – Huelgoat
Fall under the spell of this wild, unspoilt region at the heart of Brittany and the Parc Naturel Régional d’Armorique, whose highest point, Roc'h Ruz, is 385 metres above sea level.
The Monts d’Arrée, an amazing landscape !
The Monts d’Arrée is a great place to explore on foot with a partner, family or friends with its stunning scenery and tranquil, wide-ranging landscapes marked by the passage of time. Enjoy a lovely walk around Lac de Saint Michel Lake surrounded by wild moorland, or have fun on the lake itself at the water sports centre.
An awesome, almost surreal, landscape of moorland, heathland and rocky outcrops in all directions far as the eye can see. You are sure to be captivated by the amazing views from the hilltops across the surrounding region.
Moorland, granite blockfields and church closes

The flora and fauna of the rocks and moorland change with the seasons offering a rainbow of colours and some say that the rocks are « inhabited » by fairy folk. The 360° panorama from the chapel at the top of Mont Saint Michel hill, will make you wish you could stay a week longer in Finistère.
From Pleyben and its magnificent churchyard, carry on to Brasparts, then take the road towards Morlaix which runs across the Monts d’Arrée, through the Col du Roc’h Trévezel, offering amazing panoramic views (countryside, peat bogs, arid moorland, Brennilis Lake) in an array of colours worthy of an artist’s palette. Take time to enjoy some walks in this magical area to make the most of the majestic scenery and stunning views over the Léon region.
Huelgoat
At Huelgoat (high woodland in Breton), marvel at the spectacular blockfield of huge granite boulders along the Rivière d’Argent which runs through the woods from the lake to Le Gouffre. This is a land of Legends, whose mysterious place names refer to King Arthur, the Devil and the Virgin Mary. Don’t miss the Chaos du Moulin, the Rivière d'Argent, the Grotte du Diable, Le Gouffre or the Camp d'Artus. The churches and churchyards, sculpted altarpieces and pretty chapels in the area are well worth a visit as are the delightful country villages of Berrien, Bolazec, Botmeur, Brasparts, Huelgoat and Le Feuillée.
Enjoy walking, horse riding, swimming, sailing and plant discovery trails at Lac Saint Michel, a huge playground for lovers of the great outdoors. The Monts d’Arrée is also a great place for nature and environmental enthusiasts and for fishermen too. Discover local legends and traditions at a story-telling evening and round off the experience with Kig Ha Farz, a culinary speciality dish from the heart of Finistere (a sort of meat and dumpling hot pot).
« My favourite part of the Monts d’Arrée is the unspoilt, mysterious, tranquil landscape and its magnificent sunsets. Going back to nature at its best. »
Cycling or driving along quiet roads and lanes, make the most of the scenery, alone except for druids and korrigans (Breton pixies)!
Kenavo !
