Mimizan-Plage - 10km of elegant coastline
Les Landes was a pioneer in seaside tourism as sea bathing first became fashionable at Biarritz. A little to the north towards Arcachon, lies one of the most famous beaches of the Atlantic Coast of France : Mimizan. A huge length of sand stretches as far as Arcachon and the Dune du Pyla. With its 10km of fine sand and 6 beaches with lifeguards, Mimizan Plage is an ideal destination for a family holiday in Les Landes, made even more so by the relaxed way of life in the nearby village of Mimizan, a haven of peace. When you visit the village, make sure you go to Aureilhan Lake with its « Promenade fleurie », one of the most colourful floral walks in France. Mimizan-Bourg and Mimizan-Plage are both places with a rich cultural heritage like the church of Notre-Dame des Dunes and Château Woolsack where Coco Chanel, Dalí and Charlie Chaplin used to stay.
Happiness with a salty tang
Once you have spread your towel on the fine sand of Mimizan beach, you have a wealth of sporting activities to choose from. It goes without saying that the main one is surfing ! Whether you are an experienced surfer or a novice, there’s nothing like the thrill of jumping on a surfboard. Take to the waves during an introductory surfing or body-boarding lesson with an instructor. Those in search of thrilling sensations can go to kite-surfing clubs to learn how to read the wind and skim the waves, or go jet-skiing across the water. Back on dry land, as the tide goes out, have a go at sand-yachting for a shot of adrenalin. But sometimes it’s fun to spend an afternoon simply building sandcastles and fishing in rock pools.
Other activities beside the sea
Seaside activities are not the only ones on offer at Mimizan-Plage. Apart from the many footpaths around the coast, the resort has a treetop adventure park where you can launch yourself from tree to tree along zip wires. To continue with the action theme, there are several paintball clubs at Mimizan-Bourg. Families can enjoy a super horse riding outing at one of the numerous riding centres, while younger children can have fun on a donkey or pony ride. Mimizan golf course is not far from the beach and also has a driving range with 25 bays."
